San Pedro - officially known as San Pedro de Alcantara - is a town with a fantastic location within the province of Malaga. Transformed from an agricultural area, it is now a modern, interesting pueblo in its own right with plenty of developments.

Within San Pedro itself, there are numerous sights, including shopping areas, historical monuments and parks. The central plaza holds San Pedro's parish church, built in the 17th century in the 'mudejar' style. And typical to Spain, you can wander off into the narrow streets surrounding the central plaza to explore the little shops or stop in a bar or cafe. For another shopping experience, or just to feel the hustle and bustle of daily life in San Pedro, you can visit the Thursday street market.

Other sites include the Paleochristian Balisilica Church and 'Las Bovedas' - Roman public baths dated back to the third century. The tourist office can also advise you on other tours and monuments available for further exploration in the area.

You can take a pleasant stroll down the San Pedro promenade and look over on the beautiful beaches in the area or stop at a 'chringuito' to taste some Spanish delights.

And if you missed all of the summer ferias in Andalucia, or enjoy them so much that you want to visit one more before summer ends, the last feria takes place in San Pedro in the second week of October.

San Pedro has a central location making destinations such as Marbella, Puerto Banus, Guadalmina and Estepona within easy reach. Slightly further afield, though less than an hour in the car, is the city of Malaga and Gibraltar.
